From his early age, Jean-Philippe Tourigny redraws the nudes of the greatest masters of painting and he is interested in sewing, making his outfits on dolls.
At 15, JeanPhilippe discovers Vogue magazine and fashion photography. He begins to draw the models of Yves Saint Laurent photographed by Helmut Newton and Richard Avedon. He is passionate about Haute-Couture and fashion and discovers the greatest: Paul Poiret, Madeleine Vionnet, Elsa Schiaparelli, Coco Chanel, Cristobal Balenciaga, Roy Halston, Yves Saint Laurent, Thierry Mugler and Azzedine Alaïa.
At 17, following a family disagreement due to his desire to work in « Haute-Couture ». JeanPhilippe interrupt his studies and leaves the family home. JeanPhilippe goes to Paris and start an internship with Karl Lagerfeld.
A year later JeanPhilippe Tourigny meets Yves Saint Laurent who brings him into the fashion house. Trained by Yves Saint Laurent and his « premiere d’atelier », Madame Feliça, who was previously the first of Cristobal Balenciaga. He acquires the basics of the technique and the subtleties of the relationship between the cut and the fabrics. He attends the fittings and the development of the collections, discovers with passion the excellence of Haute-Couture and completes his training at the school of the French Federation of Parisian Couture.
A few months later, the summer of his 18th birthday, Jean-Philippe Tourigny discovers for the first time the city of Tangier and all the magic of Morocco.
Later his quest for the profession led him to the world of fashion photography. He became fashion editor at Harper’s Bazaar. Then he did the styling of fashion series for Vogue. He collaborates with photography stars such as Guy Bourdin, Ellen von Unverth and Peter Lindberg. At the same time, he participated as a stylist in the shows of John Galliano, Romeo Gigli, Chanel… In 1995 and 1996, he assisted Christian Lacroix on the Haute-Couture collections and in 1997, he designed the costumes for “Concert d’Ange” for the Ballets of Monte-Carlo.
During all these years JeanPhilippe Tourigny made long stays in Morocco, most often in Marrakech where he met the person who would become the essence of his inspiration and began to designs his first collection.
Back in Paris, supported by the famous French contemporary artist, Fabrice Hyber. JeanPhilippe Tourigny presents his first collection, during the haute-couture collections. The emblematic outfit of the collection will be his first Caftan.
Supported by a Japanese cosmetics company, JeanPhilippe Tourigny presents his collections in the official calendar of the French federation during « Paris Fashion week”.
